Teens Seen With Airsoft Rifles At Graham School

GRAHAM, Wash. -- Six teens are in custody after they were on the grounds of Graham Elementary School with Airsoft rifles Friday afternoon.The principal called 911 around 4 p.m. to say there were 6 or 7 teenagers walking near the school with Airsoft rifles, the sheriff's office said.Pierce County sheriff's deputies responded to the 911 call and after about 20 minutes the six teens were in police custody. Seven Airsoft rifles were also recovered, said sheriff's spokeswoman Lynelle Anderson.The principal locked down the school during the incident, where five students and several teachers were still on campus, deputies said. They were all escorted out of the building by police around 4:35 p.m.Video from Chopper 7 showed armed officers running from building to building and searching the school grounds.Video also showed the seven teens handcuffed and sitting on grass while being questioned by police.
WATCH IT: Teens Under Arrest After Incident Deputies said they do not believe there are additional suspects or weapons on school grounds, but did conduct a room-by-room sweep as a precaution.SWAT and negotiation teams were also called to the school that's located in the 10000 block of 204th Street East.Investigators said they do not have a motive for the incident. Anderson said they may have been on their way to some nearby woods and not have even realized they were breaking the law.It’s not clear if the teens will face charges, but it is a crime to take anything that appears to be a weapon onto school grounds in Washington state, even a toy gun.Airsoft rifles fire only plastic pellets.
